Western Ivey vs Warwick A&F for IB

HS senior looking for advice. I've been admitted to Western with AEO status and bSc A&F at Warwick. I heard that Ivey is a top target in Canada (small market) and Warwick is a low target in the UK (bigger market) However, recruiting in the UK is supposedly way more random than NA. I also have work authorization for Canada & UK so visa issues aren't a factor.

If my goal is to land any role in IB (country doesn't matter), which uni would serve me better?

Ivey is recognized in Canada as well as U.S. Great talent pool, learning opps, placements, etc. Essentially more open doors (obv rest is up to you)

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Western Ivey (Canada):

    • Ivey is the top target school in Canada for investment banking. It has a strong reputation for placing graduates into top firms, including elite boutiques (e.g., Evercore, Moelis) and bulge brackets (e.g., Goldman Sachs).
    • Ivey's alumni network is highly regarded, with extensive connections in high finance across North America. The case method used at Ivey is also a strong preparation for consulting and IB roles.
    • Canada is a smaller market compared to the UK, but Ivey grads have successfully landed roles in the U.S. and internationally, especially through alumni networking.
  2. Warwick A&F (UK):

    • Warwick is considered a low-tier target in the UK, meaning it has some presence in IB recruiting but not as strong as Oxbridge, LSE, or Imperial. However, it still places students into IB roles, particularly in London.
    • The UK market is larger and more competitive, with recruiting often being more random and less structured compared to North America. Networking and internships play a significant role in securing positions.
  3. Key Considerations:

    • Market Size vs. Target Status: While the UK market is larger, Ivey's status as a top target in Canada gives you a more structured and reliable path to IB roles. Warwick, being a lower-tier target, may require more effort in networking and standing out.
    • Geographic Flexibility: Since you have work authorization for both Canada and the UK, you have the flexibility to leverage Ivey's strong alumni network for roles in North America or Warwick's proximity to London for UK-based opportunities.
    • Recruiting Style: North American recruiting tends to be more structured, with clear pipelines from target schools like Ivey. In contrast, UK recruiting can be more unpredictable, even for target schools.

Recommendation: If your goal is to maximize your chances of landing any IB role, Western Ivey would likely serve you better due to its strong target status, structured recruiting process, and extensive alumni network. However, if you are specifically drawn to working in London or the UK, Warwick could still be a viable option, though it may require more effort in networking and standing out.

Ivey imo. As a Canadian Brit who went to a London target, i've seena. suprising amount of Ivey kids do their SA in the UK if they struck out in US recruiting. They also had Canadian SA offers as well. What is your work visa situation?
