What do you think of the University of Virginia

I see that all the schools listed are the same, Harvard, Standford etc. So what do you think of the University of Virginia. Should I stick with accounting and not go into ibanking because I didnt go to one of those schools.

Not sure what to make of you, but I'll bite. You're in accounting and looking to switch to i-banking? UVA undergrad (particularly COMM which is a Top 5 b-school) and Darden both have solid reputations on the Street from all that I hear. However, Darden, like Harvard, is a case study school. That means it is not as heavy on the quantitative finance as some others.

At any rate, it's a difficult transition from Accounting to I-banking no matter where you went to school. If you went to UVA undergrad, try to go to Wharton or another top feeder b-school. Even that won't guarantee a spot in i-banking though.

I hear that in London the lines between Accounting and i-banking are more blurred. I don't know from experience... in the U.S., you've a tremendous uphill climb ahead to attempt that switch.

This all being said, if you have an Accounting degree from COMM, you should be well familiar with most of what I've said save the parts about Darden. A large portion of your graduating class would have been headed to New York as investment banking analysts.

McIntire School of Commerce not Darden. I just Graduated doing the accounting thing right now. I’m just not an accountant, I got a double major in finance and accounting. And I’m not sure what to do. I see all the ibankers make millions(I know that it takes years) and I want to know if this is true.

UVAgrad pls do not sleep on your UVA diploma. You may think that UVA is not Wharton but you will be surprised at the # of top exec, assoc, analyst at the likes coming from the good ol UVA (myself included). I currently work for one of the biggest global banks and UVA helped pave the way as well as for my internship before graduation.

Also, I have a vast network of alum within the UCAN system who are actively helping me move forward within the industry. Like the say its not always what you know but rather who you know. Start thinking twice about UVA & you may just let a wonderful thing go.

Just my 2 cents
