Alex Chu says that once you get to 700, any improvement has minimal impact on your application. He says that a low GMAT can keep you out, but a high GMAT will not get you in. At this point, GMAT is prob a non-factor.

just out of curiosity, you trying to switch careers or something? being that you're in S&T, and grad degrees aren't exactly necessary, are you trying to make the jump to PE or something like that?

50Q, 41V AWA - 6.0 I was actually really disappointed at my verbal score.. I had consistently gotten around a 44 on the practice tests (including the GMAT prep tests on mba.com) =( oh wellz

Took it twice. First time got a 710 despite testing at the 730-740 level consistently. Was pretty frustrated with myself for failing to execute so I retook it.

720, I know my quant was 48 and verbal was probably 41-42.

I say don't retake. Have a solid EC and you will be good to apply.

I underperformed on verbal and overperformed on math, relative to my practice tests and test-taking history, but for my b-school/IB/PE purposes I guess that's for the better...

710, 91st or 92nd . verbal was about the same %ile but quant was like 76th. only had dings thus far XD

My Verbal is quite good for a non native speaker but my Quant is lower than my GMAT Prep (Q49 & Q50) but my overal score is 10 points higher than the last Gmat Prep so I'm indeed happy with it :)

How did you guys prepare for the GMAT? Prep courses or self-study?

i self studied. from what i hear the golden rule is to get the official guides and manhattan gmat quant books and the mba.com practice tester and just crush tests. i started off using kaplan stuff and then went to OG -- its better to start with 'harder' materials then slide into the more normalized materials

How long have you guys typically studied for to get 720+? Like a month, a few months? And number of hours in the day?

Unfortunately, I'm not a marathon studier (e.g. for cfa lv 1 and 2, I studied the month of may) - I can't will myself to study months on end, and from a timeline I saw in one of those MBA guidebooks, looks like I need to get the gmat out of the way pretty quickly if I want to apply this year.

Took 3 practice tests (2 included with GMAT registration, one from Veritas) about a week before the test. Spent maybe 2 hours over a few days browsing the Gmatclub forums for advice on Data Sufficiency questions.

Got 760s on both practice tests from the GMAC, 730 or 740 on the Veritas (they grade more harshly to make you insecure and pay for their service).

first time I took it I messed up the math section timing and ended up with like a 680, so took it again. happy that shit is over. I'd probably get a 500 right now if I took it cold.

730 - 96%, both verbal and quant into late 80s (88-89%). Non-native speaker, great ECs, no BB SA, went for MSc Economics in top European school => not in banking yet (FFS!)

Funny story. I was talking to someone about GMAT and he asked me what my score was. I said 750. Then he said: well you know I had to take the GMAT too when I went for my MBA, but my score wasn't as nice as yours, I got (...wait for it...) 715. It took me all the self control I had to keep a straight face lol

Took the test a few of months ago for the first (and only) time:

740 (97%) V - 44 (97%) Q - 47 (77%) AWA - 6.0

Took 6 Manhattan GMAT practice tests and 2 GMAC practice tests over the course of about 6-8 weeks. My MGMAT tests were in the 710-740 range and my last GMAT Prep test was a 760.

I studied a couple hours very day for a month for the first two weeks then broke it down to every other day the week before personally I dot think you need months on end to prep

granted that standardized tests have generally been a strength of mine (moreso than gpa), but i just used the OG and gmat.com materials for 3-4 hours/day for the two weeks before the test.

My Q is 50 (93%) but my V is 28 (47%). Overall 660. Yeah it sucks but English is not my first language, though I tried hard. Is this score enough for a MSF program guys?

MSF thatll probably be good for, depending on the school -- i think 650 is a good 'average' for al ot of those schools?

I mean 660 w/o working experience ( but some internship). I intend to go for an MSF after graduation. So is it possible?

i 5 hour energy'd myself so id be alert and mentally quick and drank water a lot inbetween sessions and tried to do stretching kind of things to relax myself, when is d-day?

theyre still relatively new and not many from 'top tier' programs -- MIT and princeton obv exception to the rule and i also said average.. should have said ex MIT and princeton

I'm hoping for a top tier school. I'll be applying as an active duty military officer so I'm hoping my background and unique work experience will really help me. It's definitely a stretch with my GMAT score but I'm not compete against the thousands of ibanking and consulting applicants quite as much since I'm coming from a totally different career field. At least that's what I keep telling myself....

GMAT 720 GPA 3.85 Ivy Undergrad 3 years in BB operations

Dinged at every top 10 I applied to. Got into a few in the 11-20 range. Settled on a huge scholarship at a school ranked > 30 (USNWR).
