Why do consultants (pre-MBA) move to PE? Help me think through exit

First of all I"m sorry if Im asking a basic question, I tried searching and didn't find anything. Im a second year post-undergrad role at MBB and Ive been getting a lot of outreach for PE, growth equity, VC. Ideally, my goal was to switch into tech but given the current environment that got shot. I'm also an international student so have limited options outside of tech / PE / stay in consulting.

I've received pretty good reviews in my consulting time and have a great base of people who I can keep working with, overall things at work are going great, except I'm totally burnt out to the point that I just hate my job despite being with the best people. I'm finding it hard to do even basic work lately. This is mostly due to 1)Poor WLB on some previous projects 2)Stress/anxiety related to perfectionism and 3)Harsh managers I've worked with. Therefore, my main goal for my exit is to have good WLB.

If that is the goal, PE makes no sense right? I just get so much FOMO not replying to all those recruiters but I just want to understand clearly, why do people move to PE? To me consulting seems great- the pay is not bad and the hours are not as bad as PE (I assume), there is a semblance of WLB (at least in my office where its M-W grind and lighter on Thu/Fri, and protected weekends). I think the main challenge is the constant pressure to be perfect in what you do.

How much more would someone earn by moving into PE as a post-undergrad role? How much do you sacrifice in WLB? Any advice would be so appreciated! pro
