Unlike greg smith's story this one is about a BO guy.

In conclusion: tl;dr

Unlike Greg Smith who left after 12 years, OP chose to leave after 5 years. So OP will complete is degree with Honor at INSEAD and he will make MD/COO for a booming Russian firm within 7 years. He will get offer from GS, CS, Citi "who" will beg them to expand their business in Mother Russia.

Let's say that the OP isn't like you. He knows his value and he doesn't feel insecure about his experience as a MO guy.

Guess what? The premise remains the same. OP has 7 years to make it bigger and better than Smith. While you are trolling and talking sh!t about people that you don't know, the OP will be working on his next success story.

As a matter of fact, I should have done like every one else and ignore your first cry for attention. It takes a certain presence of mind to not respond to assumptions, stereotypes and unwarranted judgments. Know which battles to fight and who to fight them with. Otherwise, rise above and keep it moving!

I realize that you are a troll who will likely never work in the industry, but there is no shame in starting in the back office. I started my career as a temp assigned to physically file trade tickets, probably a role that is behind the back office, next to the dumpsters. I worked hard and moved up the food chain at that firm before later jumping over to investment banking at another BB. Several of the BO/MO guys that I worked with have gone on to become incredibly successful in front office roles. I have been in IB for nearly 10 years now, and I have no regrets that I started out where I did.

omg... congrats. great humbling story.

INSEAD admit me already, i want to sit in a class with trailmix.

btw, once upon a time, long time back when b'school wasn't on my radar, i was offered a job at Salt Lake city operations to do IT. Didn't want to move from NC and had turned it down.

Congrats, love these stories and yours is one of the best. You seem like a stand-up guy, hope we meet before you're off to b-school.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

Gate_Crasher:
So how much money did you make ?

And I personally find the CFA a useless time waster.

in SLC I made a lot just because the cost of living there is non existent. Here in NY though was a lot tougher to save after all the restaurants, bar/clubs, and everything else that comes with living in the city.

I don't mind the CFA too much, passing the level 1 really did help me move to my role in NY. And if I pass the level 2, I have a much better chance of gettting out of some core classes in my MBA so I can better concentrate on some of the electives that I want to take.

Well, you can see Russia from Alaska so it can't be in Europe right?

This message is brought to you by Palin for President, 2012.

Sounds like you did pretty well, glad to hear you made it out of Bronco country intact! Best of luck at INSEAD, kick some ass man

Neither was I! It's a good account though. It'll be interesting to hear you at the conference.

Wow.

This is a dreadfully boring humblebrag if I've ever seen one...

You trolling bro? It's all true, what's the problem? Successful people sharing their story is an inspiration and educational.

You jelly bro?

Reading the comments section of the NYT hmmm ridiculous.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

Idiots on the NYT comments:

"chris wyatt
texas:

If this person really had a good experience why did they not provide their name. Could it be a internal Goldman mole that posted the comment?

    matt
    TX

umm...for the same reason no one on that forum, or any other, uses their real name? He's posted over 600 times...99% of which are not about GS.

Or maybe you're right and GS created a user name (3 years ago) and systematically opined over 600x under topics ranging from square toed dress shoes to "post your favorite song here" and "too muscular for the office?" That's definitely what happened."

Thank you Matt from TX for shutting up the hater chris wyatt. Kudos to you trailmix, hope to leave a success story like yours on WSO in the future.

wow, just read some of the comments...thanks to whomever was defending WSO on NY Times

To be fair, Kevin has written about WSO a number of times in the NYT over the past few years.

Nice. Didn't know that
