Yeshiva University
Hello,
I am studying abroad, but will be attending YU in the fall. Does anyone here know anything about Yeshiva University (honors)? I know its not a target school, but is it possible to break into IB from there?
Does anyone know if people on the street hire from there? Anyone with any info? Thanks
This won't be helpful to IB but if you ever change your mind, Meridian Capital Group (debt & equity broker, CRE) hires almost all of their analysts out of the Yeshiva.
I'm assuming you're Jewish, and that firm is very religion-heavy. Again, not related to IB but an anecdotal reference for you should you consider other career paths.
Yes it is possible to break into banking from YU. It isn't a 'target school' but every year there are a bunch of students who make it into some of the top and well known firms . But wait until you get back and hear more about "IB" and see IF you're still even interested in banking...

I’ve had random Yeshiva guys view my LinkedIn for no reason (current sophomore preparing for IB) and they’re all juniors or seniors that have offers for internships or FT in IB. So take that for what it is, I suppose.
Also, since a non-target, many will start out in real estate, as mentioned above, or Big4 accounting but often try to make the switch to banking/hedge funds a couple years out (some are able to, others aren't). I'd say YU's biggest business related strengths are comp-sci (those who don't go to FAANG often go to banks and other big asset managers), accounting, and pre-law (many go to top law schools and wall st law firms). But, the top finance students there are just as good as the top students anywhere else and get good offers
Between 3-7 guys get IB straight from YU almost every year. They get a guy to MS almost every year as well as the occasional GS/Moelis/ HL. They have also placed into solid MM banks as well.
I'd say even more than this...including S&T and equity research, they definitely get over 10 to really solid places (GS, Citi, BAML, MS, JPM, CS, HL, Moelis, Barclays, DB, RBC, Blackrock AM, BMO, Cantor + others I'm sure I'm missing)
Probably another 5/10 to random smaller places, (not including the middle office risk or tech positions that students get also)
can confirm that about 3-7 get into IB each year. not easy, but not impossible. Can confirm with previous replies, first get through your freshman year and understand what investment banking is before thinking you want to do it. plus, if you’re religious, it’s not easy leaving early Friday.
I’m not in YU, but as an Orthodox Jew, recruiters at IB firms will definitely have a hard time with this.
Religious observance shouldn’t come up with recruiter, only becomes a conversation once you start at the bank. Shouldn’t be an issue during the recruiting stage.
