After a Few Years of Trading which type of grad school do you look into?
I was thinking of spending a few years in trading ( in the Analyst role - so not actual hard-core trading ) and then pursuing grad school. Honestly, I'm not sure so this may never actually occur, but of the following which one is a more useful track:
1) MBA 2) LSE - Masters... 3) J.D. - ( do they frown on work experience? )
I'm a novice, so take it easy.
Why would you go to grad school? If you want to be trading and are in trading there is not much reason to leave. If you are going into it wanting to do something else, you probably shouldn't be doing it... there are many other options that have more diverse exit opportunities. What exactly is your reasoning?
I don't know just having a B.S. in Engineering seems kind of rough given the number the people out there with higher degrees...just a thought
If you are interested in being in trading, you do not need to get another degree once you break in. Going back to school would be a good move if you wanted to change careers. If you are planning on doing a few year stint in S&T I ask: why? It doesn't make sense to me.
Trading is not as pedigree-driven as other finance jobs. Plenty of traders don't have advanced degrees, mainly because they're not very useful. If you want to stay in trading, none of the degrees mentioned will help much with advancing your career. If you want to switch roles, that's a completely different story.
this is up to you bud. if I say JD does that mean you would do well in law school? no not at all. Actually I had a friend who traded for two years then went to Harvard Law so it can be done. I dont think work exp helps like it does for MBA.. I mean its not frowned on but its not going to help your 3.0 and 152 lsat.
The MBA makes the most sense to change careers but to stay in trading I would laugh.

And let the firm pay for it. It's really all you need anyway. Also, some firms pay for you to get an MFE online while working (maybe 1-2 classes / semester)
...you dont need an advanced degree to be trader. Get a advanced degree in trading by working hard to be good at it and you will have a skill much more unique then an MBA or CFA.
Trading is a career. IBD/Consulting is a means to an end. Trading is an end.
