Are the requirements for S&T Analysts/Associates similar to that of IB Analysts/Associates?

Just researching a bit, Google giving some conflating answers. For example, if you're in another field and want to eventually become an IB Analyst, you'll most likely need an MBA. Is this also the case with S&T and other fields, like Equity Research, etc?

There are a couple main differences between the two, and these have both emerged post-crisis:

  1. S&T new hires are almost exclusively at the analyst level. S&T MBA hires are much rarer these days as analysts are cheaper and essentially perform the same functions. With that said it's not impossible, there are just very, very few spots available.

  2. The majority of S&T hiring at the analyst level is done through the summer analyst program. I haven't heard of anyone being hired from another industry at either level.
