From what I know, JPM and RBS give it to their S&T interns. Citi gives it to CM people but not S&T. GS dont think they give it to S&T. Not sure about the rest.
You're a fucking intern, I don't think your bank is "dicking" you.
if theres only one thing you do as an intern its learn how to use bloomberg.
dont have it. i barely have a dedicated desk that i sit at all the time.
you must not be liked very much,very easy for the IT person to make a call and ask for a trial account to put you on for a 3 month period. Sometimes limited functionality but nothing i haven't noticed

And what would I use it for? Help with shadowing traders or getting lunch? Nobody in my class has it you fucking retard. I don't need to "learn how". My school has 5 terminals and I've done the certifications in fi and equities. It's really not that big of a deal...
I got it, but we only have one terminal.... I do hog it though. Does anyone know a site that has basically a list of all the most used bloomberg commands? I keep finding useful random ones like bmap.
And yes your bank is dicking you, get bloomberg.

I never really took initiative on getting it, so I emailed IT and I will let it go from there. I was anticipating that learning to use a terminal would be central to any summer internship at a big bank, but apparently it goes both ways.
I have it...all the interns in S&T do. At least Fixed Income.
My MM bank gave it to the S&t interns after I e-mailed our internship coordinator about Blomberg access. Be proactive and it should be no problem to AT LEAST get a few terminals set up for you guys to share.
Having access to Bloomberg and especially having the ability to use the Bloomberg excel api has definitely allowed me to add some value. I imagine that it would be seen as a major plus if you can build something in excel to help the traders in addition to normal shadowing and lunch ordering activities.
First thing I was given. But then my desk is adamant I'm capable.
As an intern I did not have it but anytime someone was out I would use their login (back before the secure logins were out) and learned a ton of the functions. Glad I took advantage of it when i did because it made for a much smoother transition into my current role.

Hello everyone,
I am interning at an AM and I only use Bloomberg Terminal to get interest rate and some industry reports. Since everyone usually leaves at 5, I have a plenty of time to play around with BT in the evening. I will be graduating next summer so in coming fall, and will try to apply to as many finance positions as possible to increase my chance of getting interviews. So I want to develop a well-rounded knowledge of finance/investing/research (well, I guess I do like the buy-side more than the sell-side but jobs on the buy-side right after undergrad are hard to find). So I am just wondering what functions/features within BT or Excel Bloomberg add-in that I can use to enhance my knowledge of finance?

Simple macros that help you pull / compile from Bloomberg can go a long way. It's all about efficiency in the end.
MA takes you to the M&A database. LEAG takes you to the league tables.
Try playing around with each of the top row buttons. EQUITY, CMDTY, etc. That's pretty much how I learned it. For equities, pick your favorite stock (call it IBM), do IBM US EQUITY and you get to a page where you can get all the data you need for the stock, volumes, analyst research, options monitor (OMON), etc For CMDTY, you can see where oil is trading, what the futures curve looks like, etc.
Start there and see where you end up (Warning: if you are really into finance, you might end up spending all night at the BT)

Also I like to use RV to build custom comps tables and analyze relative valuations.

Thanks guys. Some more questions: I know a lot of people said morning notes are useless but I am just wondering if there are any firms that have better morning notes than others? Also, what research firms/banks are good with economics/macro research?
