Bloomberg API

Does anyone know any solid links for learning bloomberg API. I am starting to make some models/tools but I am sort of slow at picking up learning bloomberg.

So far I have found

http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/MFE/download/api_sem…

It seems pretty good but im having trouble learning how to use things like the calculation overrides.

Do you have access to a Bloomberg Professional Terminal. There is a help file that is available from the Bloomberg toolbar/ribbon/menu in Excel.

On the Bloomberg menu in Excel 2003, click the "Help" menu item. It will explain all of the BDx() functions (i.e. BDP() for real-time/static requests), BDH() for history, etc) and how to use the Bloomberg data wizards.

If you have any specific questions, please let me know. I know these things quite well.

try DAPI in the bloomberg console. take the time to learn the syntax as that will make your life getting the data you want much easier.

also, the link you posted is for the old Bloomberg API. make sure you upgrade to the new one and convert your old links to the new format, otherwise it will make updating links a pain in the ass.

Watch the Bloomberg videos for a start (i.e. Introduction to API & Advanced Equity API) at BU 99 , but wait until they upgrade the videos to the new API. I actually had a meeting with a Bloomberg trainer today, and he said that they will be upgrading the videos soon. For calc overrides, your best bet is DAPI .

Great links, Thanks guys. I figured out what I was trying to do. Unfortunately the computer couldnt handle it and it crashes every time. Pretty powerful shit.

You can try out the Bloomberg API Emulator available at CodePlex. (Search "Bloomberg API Emulator, I can't post links here).

It's free and it works and acts just like the actual Bloomberg API, except you don't need an account. The data it returns is fake, but you can use it to learn how to use the Bloomberg API.
