Can a trade support role help get an FO role?

Hello Everyone,

Curious to know opinions. Aside from networking on the job and building relationships with FO peers that you support. Do trade support jobs generally help garner traction from headhunters or receive interviews from banks when applying to analyst s&t roles? I am currently in a trade support role that I just started and I sit with the desk supporting Fx & rates. Desk seems rather kind. Is there a good chance I can make the switch down the road?

What can I do to standout?

Thank you and have a great day everyone.

I've seen this done on multiple occasions. That being said, I am at a smaller (leaner) shop with high visibility across departments. The transition can actually be quite simple if you make connections with the right people. One major tip that I would offer is that physical proximity is key to the transition. If you are closer to the desk, you will be able to build relationships internally and can offer to pick up extra work/ shadow traders. Make sure to ask lots of questions and take an interest in their work.

Thank you, Mike! I am also moving into a smaller shop hoping that this could help me. Will definitely take your advice and ask to shadow once I am stable in my position. I appreciate your words!
