Day Investing/Trading Advise for Junior Banker

Hey guys, market’s been tough and with recruiting winding down I’ve got more free time and want to learn active trading in individual US stocks around earnings volatility. I’ve been a long-term investor in ETFs, mutual funds and indexes, but now I’m looking at short-term plays.

I’m in a rough personal/professional spot right now, don’t know anything beyond basic buy/sell orders, and honestly I’m scared to pull the trigger. I’ve nowhere else to turn, so any help would mean a lot.

I’ll use a zero-commission non-bank broker with $2–5 K to start (happy to scale up over time). Any tips on:

  • Entry plays around earnings?
  • Good resources or screeners? I don't know much beyond the basics tbh
  • Risk management: position sizing & stop-losses for a small account?
  • Broker features beyond free trades to look for?

Thanks in advance—really appreciate any guidance.
