Do people "lateral" into trading from anything which isn't trading?
Just curious here. Kinda mainly referring to sell-side trading. Some people in IB come from Big 4's practices or sometimes even consulting for example. Similar for ER (or even from industry). Equally ER -> IB or vice versa is far from unheard of.
But does trading have anything similar or do people just graduate into it and then the industry just plays hot potato with the graduate class forever? Can people from other areas of the bank (excluding adjacent MO market risk people) switch to trading ever?
Typically quant
No quant is lateraling to the SS
