Easier for girl to get into sales and trading?
Hey, i am wondering since there aren't that many girls in S&T, if it's easier if you're a girl (relatively hot for a top 1o school).

hot women usually go to sales
What is 'relatively hot for a top 10 school?' If you're hot, and you interview for S&T, you'll probably get put into sales. If you're not hot and interview for S&T, they probably won't take you (only 2 female traders on my floor).
For good-looking women, I'd say the job prospects are as follows: Sales>Consulting>Asset Management> ECM/DCM>IBD>Trading (market-making)>Proprietary Trading. My ranking is based on percentage of women currently in the field.
Post pictures so we can assess if your hot enough for S&T or not. If your a UC Santa Barbara hot or a MIT nerdy chick hot. This will help us evaluate your chances. Videos are good if you have those too.
It is easier for attractive girls to get jobs anywhere including wall st. This is true for all divisions and occupations on the street. And I do know a couple of female traders on the sell-side so that is not as rare as some think. Up until last year when she left for a hedge fund, the biggest risk-taker on Goldman's US rates desk was a woman. Also, I am quite sure that if you showed a real interest in trading it would be easier for you to get a job in that field because there are so few girls...ie banks WANT to hire female traders but not many women show a real interest in it.
Yeah I was somewhat surprised when two traders from SIG who came for my college info session were both females. On balance though, I guess what brotherbear said is right.
What would be the ways to show a REAL interest in trading, other than doing what every (male) college kid does? I'm reading the market section of FT, getting newsletters from a couple of websites, have invested my own money once. I can't play poker very well. I wish I had.
it's only easier if you're a blue devil girl
the way to show interest would be to say you want to be a trader and talk about markets during your interviews. I didnt mean to focus on the word "real".
i remember an onion headline "employment rate for attractive females remains stable at 100%".
how's Duke treating you blue devilgirl?
Haha I remember that Onion article... which reminded me of this one: "US Blowjobless Rate At All-Time High" http://www.theonion.com/content/node/39680/
Anyway, to keep this post from being entirely off-topic, I would echo the sentiments above. If you are an attractive and smart (the latter not always nec. true) female, you have a better shot at getting a job. Women in S&T are often shepherded towards sales, but if you have a passion for trading then go with it. I've met a few female traders at my firm, but not many... though its probably more of a demand side issue in terms of there being few women who are innately interested in the position. If you can (and like to) hang with the guys, then I think you'd be able to fit in well.
Oh... and I look forward to playing you on Saturday :-)
I would hope that firms don't hire traders based on gender/looks though sadly there might be a bias. I can imagine firms hiring based on gender & looks for sales.
Note: My bad bumping this thread. I was searching for something, saw this article, decided to reply. Thought it was 2013. I'm assuming that this person has their answer now.
