iambatemanand it is possible to enter the equity prop desk as an analyst as everyone enters as generalists and the prop desks accept a few new hires each after rotations

not every BB hires people as generalists

 

who summered on the prop desk, they have no spots for analysts directly out of undergrad...although i know a kid who started as a full time analyst last summer on the prop desk there but apparently they are not taking new analysts at all currently...

someone from GS please correct me if this has changed

 

You aren't out of luck if you don't get into an Ivy. Many of the top prop firms are located in Chicago so they recruit at all the good undergrad programs in the Midwest. UIllinois, Umich and the like will give you the best shot. Internships are very selective.
