Hi laughamout, the silence is deafening, sorry about that.... Any of the threads below helpful?
If we're lucky, maybe I can guilt some users to help you out: @ericlister1" davechappelle @Bobbandit28"
Hope that helps.
I think your best option is to try and transfer internally into an asset class more distanced from electronic disruption. I cant imagine it would be that difficult considering your a first year analyst. Cash equity is the most dirsupted product from everything I have read and as a salestrader without coding experience, I think your career would end sooner rather than later. I believe securitized products and something a little more illiquid such as EM debt is a much safer bet.
That being said I'm a little surprised you did not see this coming when taking the job. I am an incoming S&T SA and I am doing everything I can to stay ahead of the curve, including taking the GMAT. The only reason I chose S&T is because I love it and I knew right away IB wasnt for me.
Best of luck.
Thanks for the advice. I definitely knew what I was getting into, but this bank holds a reputable name and was my best offer at the time. I think I have a decent chance of getting promoted to associate in a few years, so I was thinking of doing MBA to transition into consulting or IB. It's hard to internally transfer to a different asset class because they don't think I have the requisite qualities, so that's why I'm currently pursuing the CFA track.
Let me know if you have more advice -thanks
I do think you can learn Python easily if you give it 6 months. That may not help in the short run but long term it can be of great use.
If you’re trying to make a switch into something such as IB, try reaching out to friends in analyst/associate positions in that role in addition to headhunters. In a similar boat as you in a regional office of a BB (started 6 months ago). Came to realize this isn’t necessarily the best fit for me/wanted a general skillset that could transfer over to multiple industries. Been able to get a few lateral interviews recently just by reaching out in recent weeks. However be prepared with the fact you’ll most likely have to restart as a 1st year analyst. If you’re fine with that and want to leave S&T sooner than later, make use of any and all connections
