FICC Sales: Financial Institutions

Hi everyone, I appreciate all the sharing here allowing me to get lots of valuable information about the nature of a S&T role.

I will be joining a FICC sales team in a regional bank which services financial institutions in Asia. I did not have prior banking background but as much as I can I keep up with markets and my major in is finance.

I have a couple of questions which I would like to ask. While I have tried searching around the treasure trove of existing content here I can't seem to find the information I am looking for. Pardon me if it has been answered before.

So here it goes...

1) Why does a bank need to have a team specifically to cater to FI clients? (i.e. other banks, funds, insurance firms etc.) can't the banks just have a single group that services UHNW, Corporates and FIs? Aren't their needs the same but of different volumes? (larger)

2) I will be asked to write daily market commentaries. While I do keep up with the various FICC markets, what are the expectations of such daily tasks? I really don't want to be seen as too green but I lack clarity of how I should approach this daily task. Any advice on how to structure my daily commentaries?

3) How do you keep up with the different markets? (rates, FX, commodities) Your goto websites or just simply bbg?

I hope these aren't too obnoxious questions and if they have been addressed my apologies!

Thank you and have a great weekend ahead!
