Going Crazy as a Quant Trader

Currently a quant trader tearing my hair our and going slightly bananas.

The stronger I grow as a trader, the weaker I become as a quant. Vice versa. My head hurts from balancing reading academic papers, doing research, coding, and managing the book.

Extremely worn out by doing effectively 2 jobs at once. Can other quant traders share how they balance quant responsibilities vs trading responsibilities?

Why do you not give us more background on your transition in your career. Truly you may get better luck posting this in the HF forum. This is no different from a fundamental analyst moving towards a risk taking role. Your first goal moving forward is going to be to manage the book so question is what resources/juniors the firm offers you to do the other things. How much you are developing being a mentor/boss.

Other thing is you say you are growing a trader...do you enjoy that growth versus what you started out doing as a quant?
