Have you ever seen a new hire that you immediately knew wouldn’t last?
Have you ever seen someone and wondered - holy fuck, how did my colleagues and peers actually sign off and hire this guy?
Recently we’ve hired a new guy full time though and my god, I thought he was an intern at best (and I would defo not advise on giving him a Return offer).
The guy is really, laughably poor quality and out of his element. I really have no idea why we hired him because we’ve been looking for this role for a while and interviewed some pretty good candidates along the way.
1) really really poor social etiquette. Guy is just awkward as fuck, can’t banter to save his life and talking to him is so boring and one dimensional that I wanna gouge my eyes out. He doesn’t speak good English either and isn’t really on the same frequency as the other guys. He’s kinda weird.
2) careless as fk. I already can sense people getting annoyed at him for making silly repeated mistakes.
3) arriving late and leaving early when everyone else is in grinding together. Holy fuck I know guys who would kill for this role. What the fk are kids these days on?
4) an incredible lack of industry knowledge which unfortunately is to be expected, but he doesn’t even know some basics that I would expect him to by this point.
5) he lacks confidence and is a slow learner.
Overall, I’m really shocked by this hire we’ve made. I don’t really think it’s a nepotism hire for sure, but I also don’t see the guy lasting past a couple months given the cumulation of all the above. Some members of the floor are also seemingly surprised given the standards we have around here- I really don’t know who gave the green light to hire him. I do want him to work out but I unfortunately feel we will be looking for his replacement soon enough. Has this ever happened to you guys?
This is my situation right now except that moron became our boss. He is skilled at politics and protected by management, so all the younger talent are leaving.
One of my friends in IBD(analyst 1) had this issue. Said she didn't know anything about DCF/LBO model, financial modelling, so associates there had to spare time teaching her what DCF/lbo is:)
Turned out she was a daughter of major clients of that bank lol:) this could be one possibility for your case
