Help! Commodity Traders

I'm not trying to come off desperate but here's my situation. I've wanted to do commodities trading ever since I did 2 summers on the New York Mercantile Exchange early on in college. Unfortunately, after many trading interviews, nothing was able to materialize when I graduated and I ended up taking a job at a financial services consulting firm (geared towards trading operations). I worked here for about 7 months since I graduated and just recently, they call me in to tell me im being laid off due to slowing business (and that it was no fault of my own). I never loved the job anyway but at least I had a job. Truth is though, it wasn't trading and trading is what I want so badly. I've done the cold calls, linked in messages, getting in touch with recruiters,,all with mixed results. So, as this board always promotes networking, I know there are many of you on this board who work in commodities trading or any trading for that matter. If any of you out there can help me in any way, you have no idea how much that would mean to me. I refuse to give up on this dream of mine and all I need is an opportunity.

---I went to a target with very solid GPA if that helps

start trading on your own account if you haven't already so you can actually backup claims that you'd make a good trader. also, for commods, try applying outside banks/brokerages and look at smaller regional oil/gas/power firms that have their own trading desks to hedge or market

This is kind of off-topic but what do you guys think in general about starting comm trading at more physical trading companies? Let's say for example Glencore? Are there any real opportunities for Grads or only backoffice work?
