How do these Instagram/Youtube trading communities/day traders work?

So I've seen so many ads for these day traders on youtube and instagram who "recruit followers" to join their "team" and seem to post pictures of how they're clearly living the life (flash stuff). Clear, it's some sort of scam - but how does it all work?

Some of these guys have 100k+ followers etc.

a Lot of it is just broker commission as you have to use the platform they use and invest a minimum amount and then you get shitty signals or they will even trade your account (badly). They don't know what they are doing they know basic technical analysis and mostly take screenshots from demo accounts with crazy profits. When it goes wrong its due to "unforeseen circumstances" or as a group everyone must "learn and grow". By targeting low income earners for example students who (I dont know how it works in America) In the UK get student Loans and for some of them it will be the most amount of money they have ever had in there bank accounts - Most spend it on partying, some are sensible and balance the books for living expenses, I know a girl who got fake TITs done from her loan and others will get scammed to put that money into trading with the promise of massive returns and never having to work a 9-5.

I know about this because my friend nearly got scammed before we convinced him not to do it by someone called MATT Travis (google him if you like) whos currently being prosecuted for this bullshit scam.
