How many college seniors do top prop shops usually hire?

Any idea how many college seniors top prop shops like Jane Street/drw/Getco/jump, etc. hire each year? I heard from some people that Jane Street and Getco are planning on only giving like 3-4 full-time offers this year. Not sure if this is true though.

Depends on the turnover of each firm. Generally, firms that hire bigger classes probably have more people quit, get fired, burn out, etc. I think a smaller recruitment class is a mark of a higher caliber firm. They're probably doing more to weed out people who are a bad fit. Generally, there are enough smart people to go around at all these firms. It then becomes a question of, "Can I sit with this guy from market open to market close, where we're so close we become intimately familiar with one another's farts, one another's quirks, and one another's personalities? Can I do this and not only not go crazy, but also maybe have a good time and possible make more money?" Some firms don't do a good enough job of vetting kids and hire a bunch and then the experienced guys don't wanna deal with them, and the new hires get boned because no one wants to help them out, so it's a bad situation all around.

Last firm I was at recruited about 10-12 per year out of college and the firm was only 125. I took that as a negative sign, and sure enough our retention was not great (not only with experienced guys, but also new hires). I can't comment on my newer firm as I haven't seen a round of recruitment yet.

However, I think 4-5 would be reasonable.

Getco's class of 2011 was 11.

Source-I began interviewing with them in February, and while they liked me they said they only wanted to consider me for class of 2012 because they were full with 11.
