I have no idea if the thread was accurate when it was written 7 years ago but it's certainly not now especially given the former Getco is now part of Virtu. It may have been true at one point that "If you go to Getco, you are set for life" but Getco's profits were already collapsing by 2010. Total compensation at Getco peaked in 2008 and had fallen by roughly 50% by 2012 even though headcount had more than doubled (link to Getco financials from this article https://dealbook.nytimes.com/2013/02/13/in-first-disclosure-getco-revea…).

The information on Jump in that thread is also out of date and I don't think the sink or swim culture is still around. Quickly making lots of money in HFT as a college grad is (sadly) no longer common and firms have adapted and extended their training to adjust to the increasing technological and algorithmic sophistication.

"Tryna Trade" Usually around 50, maybe 60 at some places. Traders for the most part have to get in very early but don't need to stay much later than 4 or 5.

I'd say this is pretty accurate, in my firm no one really does less than 50 and I don't know anyone who goes over 60
