How to overcome drawbacks of not being on a top ranked macro desk

What are some drawbacks of being on a badly ranked (on the street) macro trading desk? I suppose a big one is not being able to see a lot of flow. Also, how can one overcome these drawbacks if the goal is to exit to a macro hedge fund as a junior PM or PM down the road.
