How to prepare for S&T in University
I am a rising sophomore in university. I got interested in S&T recently, but don't have much knowledge in the field. What are some first steps I can take to explore the field? And what is the normal track a university student takes to work in S&T after graduation? Thanks!
Generic advice: Read financial news daily, try to form some opinion about companies and the macro. Learn coding, as much as people say it isn't needed it will open a lot of doors. Python is best, along with data science stuff, so numpy, pandas, matplotlib, etc. Get good at a game that involves a lot of elements of trading. Could be a video game, I know MOBAs and games like Slay the Spire are considered good. Any RTS is good too. Poker is always a favorite, it teaches a lot about the odds and expected values etc.
Thank you, I will follow those! Is it necessary for me to take some courses to learn about the technical things about SnT?
Maybe? What exactly do you mean? Like, equities? Derivs? Options? I mean it depends so heavily on the desk's you'd be most interested in
I see. I was thinking about some more general courses like finance and statistics classes. And do I have to learn about specific desks' things right now? I thought that would be learnt after I got the job.
