If the finance industry collapses in six months, and you know it...

Okay, I hope this will never happen . . . but what IF?!

If you knew that the finance industry will collapse in six months, which industry / position would you prepare yourself for? How would you prepare yourself for the next six months?

By collapse do you mean implode, or just lay off a lot of people?

I am going to assume the former for fun...

I'd buy a handgun, hunting rifle, sharp utility knife, water purification tablets, enough gas to get me to Vermont, every season of Man Vs. Wild to study, an alma mater snuggie, and Brittney Spear's greatest hits CD. Hit me baby one more time.

Anyone who says gold is a dumbass. In short, prepare for the collapse of everything.

Barring anarchy, if the question is which industry would you go to now that finance is gone ... I'd just retire. That is, of course, only after shorting the entire world first to build up that goose egg. Then I'd buy all the guns and the Alabama Crimson snuggie and GTFO.

Yep, that's what we were referring to. No one fucks with the guy who has the balls to wear a snuggie in the post-apocalyptic world. It screams... Manly?

If you knew the financial industry was going to collapse, fiat currency would go with it. I would stock up on gold, silver, firearms, ammunition, non-perishable food, real estate with spring or well water, water purification tablets, a natural gas well, a shitload of generators, rottweilers, warm clothing, timber, all hard assets etc.

Perhaps most importantly, I would get the hell out of New York City, buy a ton of land someplace that meets the above criteria with lots of wildlife, far away from civilization. I'd also probably but every single book I could on a Kindle and download it too so I wouldn't get bored in my safe house as the world collapses. Maybe somewhere in the middle of Canada. Hatchet was a pretty awesome book (at least I recall it being that way when I was in 6th grade).

This is my one zero-hedge end of the world post of the year.

What would you do when the kindle dies? Infinite electricity?

But yes snuggies are the epitome of manliness when it comes to wearing them in front of anybody...

Hatchet was badass, and the sequels were okay too I guess, but Hatchet made me want to run away from home like 9 times and live like Bear Grylls or some shit... except without the Comfort Inn and the camera crew.

Other important items you've left out that are extremely important - a woman, a TPX mattress, a few (>250) bottles of a good red, a dozen boxes of hand grenades, a horse, a few dildos, and an official Red Ryder carbine action 200 shot range model air rifle with which to shoot your eye out once the woman gets old and ugly.
