I have been selected to appear for IMC Trading's first round online aptitude test for an internship in Trading. As far as I know I need to complete 18 questions in 24 minutes. There are three sections: Verbal Ability, Numerical Analysis and Logical Deduction.
I would appreciate it if anyone could provide me with link to resources that I could practice from as I have no idea what kind of questions appear on such online tests contain.
Any kind of help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Took their test twice. It has pretty unique deduction section which takes more than 33% of the test. Numerical questions are easy math type problems, slightly easier than GMAT in my view.
Test itself is sorta easy, but after that they start screening resumes so even if you do well on the test you can get dinged
I had actually been the student responsible for attending to their needs at our business school career fair and my conversations with them went well. +1 for Networking I guess.
But what do you suggest I practice to get past the online test? I have till Wednesday to take the test and want to practice well. I took the GRE 1 year ago so I know my solving skills are not at my previous level. Should i just time myself and try solving sums?
Also any suggestions about preparing for their deduction section?
I went through it a couple of years back. Here's what I remember:
It's definitely not a difficult test that you should stress over, but it's not computationally tough. The math is fairly basic, but one thing I noticed is you have to work very quickly, and directly. For example, a number of the questions had me reading a wall of text (literally, 1-3 paragraphs), and counting the number of vowels. Others were pattern recognition, simple math word problems (if X can make n widgets in 1 hour and Y can make m widgets in 5 hours how many widgets can X+Y make in 15 hours, etc.), visual analysis (like comparing 2D/3D models). So none of it is that hard or even requires that much mental math, but you need to see the problem and attack it immediately.
Compared to other tests (thinking about Optiver mainly), it's a lot easier, at least in my opinion. But at the same time, you can prepare to a certain degree for a math speed test like Optiver. IMC was more of an IQ test, which apart from having a baseline level of aptitude is fairly difficult to study and prepare for.
Well any idea how many questions you have to get correct to move on to the next round? Overall out of 24 questions I think I got 20 questions correct.
