Institutional Equities Sales Interview
Hi,
I have an interview next week for a sales position at the Institutional Equities desk at RBC in Toronto. Does anyone have any experience with these interviews? Any suggestions on how to prepare and what to expect would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

My guess would be almost purely behavioral interview. Sales is all about personality. Why sales? Why RBC? etc. You might get: "sell me this pen". Don't cringe, it happens more often than you think. They'll also likely ask for a stock pick, it won't matter too greatly what the pick is (within reason) as long as you make a convincing, technical argument.
My advice would be not to downplay the analytical nature of the role. Sales people are on the phone with clients essentially selling the firm's equity research - they talk valuation constantly. So you need to present yourself as a very balanced person, the hard skills with the soft.
