Is R widely used in New York firms?

Hi all. Here in Seattle, R is commonly used by local shops i.e. Russell Investments, BlackRock for trading. Does anyone here from a trading shop/bank use R frequently for trading? I.e. testing/prototyping trade ideas.

Debating whether or not to keep learning R or switch to Python or something. Thanks

At a BB and used R extensively in school... From my experience, R isn't commonly used day to day... VBA is still by far the most popular... I can't say much regarding testing of trading strategies though.

I'd consider my programming ability to be more towards the novice side, but my first interaction with programming was with Python. I'd recommend switching over to that as I think it's much more practical and makes learning other languages easier.

Feel free to PM.
