Jane Street Interview--Winter Internship

Hi,

So on a whim, I sent in my resume to Jane St Capital for a winter internship--more specifically, the assistant trader position.

I am currently a freshman in college (aka, the only things on my resume are from high school), and I was totally not expecting a reply because of this, but yesterday they sent me an email for the first round telephone interview.

I was really surprised and am not sure how to respond. I have a bunch of midterms this week and have been very sleep deprived as of late, so I don't think that this week would be the best one for an "extremely quantitative" interview.

I've heard that Jane Street's interviews are very challenging--and while I'm a numbers person, I can't think on my feet as fast as some people can. Do you think that their interview for just a winter internship (one month) would be as intensive as their regular ones? Is Jane Street the type of company that only interviews you once (aka, if I fail this interview, I don't get another shot...ever)?

Ultimately, is this interview worth it? I have some other things planned for my winter break, so I'm wondering if I should just not interview and instead apply again when I'm older.

Thanks!

Yes, this interview is definitely worth it. I bet the interview will still be as intensive as others, but you may be given more leeway. Not sure about this, but I wouldn't underestimate the intensity. If I were you I would find a way to get some rest and prepare yourself. JSC is a top-notch place and you should take the opportunity.

^ditto. The interview will be the same whenever it is and whatever stage you're at in your education (at least the first stage will be the same). It'll all be about arithmetic (and how confident you are about your answers) and a little later some probability. All high school stuff, but you need to think (out loud and) the right way.

Good luck.
