Laid off from S&T role, looking for exit opps

Hello,

Need some career advice from more experienced hands. I was laid off from a S&T role couple of weeks ago and am still figuring out what to do. Couple of other people were also let go with me and I cant really explain why I got let go (Stopped thinking about it to be frank)

I worked hard from a mid office position to work my way into the FO (non traditional path). Seen people do this but atleast they have stayed longer than me. Anyways these are my options as I think fit,

  1. been meeting people from other banks and actual openings are really few. Just aiming to make an impact to see if they could carve out something for me.
  2. thinking of moving from s&t to a middle office role like - risk mgmt, platform development etc. Not really glamorous in terms of profile or pay but could it be safer?

I am not in my 20s where I can afford to risk another day like this in my career. We were thinking of settling down and start a family before I got let go so that is also weighing my judgement. I like working in the industry and be part of it but realize the S&T roles are really difficult to sustain yourself in and there is good chance to get laid off again in the future. Everyone of course tries to avoid this, work hard, generate p/l etc but sometimes it feels that there are bigger events that might affect your future.
