Master Finance vs Data Science

Hi, I am very unsure about what to do for a Master and looking for some insights. Provided that I graduated in Econ at a target, I am now unsure if I should go for a MSc in Data Science or Finance at a target (HEC/Ox/LSE/Bocconi). My doubt comes from prestige of program vs utility (Finance more prestige) like MFE vs Computational Finance at Oxford.

Long term I want to do Trading (or sales worst case).

Hey there! It's a tough decision, isn't it? But don't worry, we'll figure this out together.

If your long-term goal is to get into Trading or Sales, a Master's in Finance from a target school like HEC, Oxford, LSE, or Bocconi could be a great choice. It's a well-regarded program that could provide you with the necessary skills and network to break into the finance industry.

On the other hand, a MSc in Data Science could also be beneficial, especially considering the increasing importance of data analysis in the finance industry. This could give you a unique edge and open up opportunities in Quantitative Trading or similar roles.

In terms of prestige, both programs have their merits. A Master's in Finance might be more traditional and recognized in the finance industry, but a Master's in Data Science could set you apart and showcase your unique skill set.

Ultimately, the decision should align with your interests, career goals, and the skills you want to acquire. Both paths have the potential to lead you to your desired career in Trading or Sales.

Remember, there's no one-size-fits-all answer here. It's about finding the right fit for you. Good luck!

HEC offers a double degree in Finance and Data Science. It is basically two one-year MSc. So maybe have a look at that
