Master's in Mathematics of Financial Mathematics for being a quant
Hi all,
Am currently in my third year of an integrated 4th year Mathematics Master's course (MMath) at a UK target. I also have an offer for a 1 year Msc in Mathematical Finance at the same university. The Mathematical Finance course is more expensive so I am wondering if it will make a difference to employability for quant roles?
If I take good modules on the Mmath will it be just as good (am currently doing things like probability/measure theory, stochastic analysis, PDEs etc...)
The Msc will definitely teach me to finally code properly, which is obviously ridiculously important (already have some experience in java and sql but I am not a pro), although I was hoping I could just teach myself Python over the summer or something.
Any thoughts appreciated, thank you!
edit : for American's, a Master's in Financial Maths/Mathematical Finance is the equivalent of an MFE in the UK I believe.
Hey Intern in Risk Mnmgt, I'm here because nobody responded to this thread after a few days...maybe one of these resources will help you:
More suggestions...
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
As long as you are in target schools with relevant degrees, you get interviews from sell side for sure. To nail quant interviews, you just need to do exercise in Quant interview books during preparation. In order to make up the knowledge in financial math, you could first try Shreve’s Stochastic textbook I & II. If you have more time, go heck some nonlinear option pricing books.
So straight to your question, I see no difference but tuition in between math and fin math master.
