Moving from equities to rates/fx

Started on equity derivatives at a top BB 2 years ago. Although I like the work here and am doing well, I always feel like I'd rather be in rates/fx because my long term goal is to run my own macro book on the buyside. There is some macro interface I have in my current role (in various sorts of vol trading, index vol in particular seems to be quite macro). However I think the exits I want are gonna come from being on a more traditional macro desk. Are banks generally receptive to people moving across asset classes? I've very briefly networked with people on other desks (more on the structured products side MBS/CLO type stuff) and it seems like a bit of a crapshoot. These macro desks seem to be in ultra high demand with ultra short supply. What would you guys suggest as the quickest and most surefire way to achieve my goal here?
