Natural Gas Trader Compensation

Hi,

My name is Ryan, I'm a new RINS and gas trader at small gas shop in the midcon. I worked my way up from the mid office at an MLP and am trying to figure out where the best paying gas trader jobs are. Tenure and experience is important in comp, I am aware. Trade shops who pay a percent of book profits is where I think the best paying jobs are. Most trader jobs will pay around 100k in salary and a discretionary bonus depending on the firm. I know Koch pays a percent of book. I know Traf, Mercuria pay traders very well. Besides that, I am unsure of what my career should look like en route to making 500k+ at a trade shop (if my assumption that they pay the best is correct). I have a year of experience now as a trader and make 110k plus discretionary bonus. I'm wondering where would the best next step be? Marketing shop and shoot for 150k+ bonus once I get a few more years under my belt? Supermajor to get more experience? Should I just focus on being the best midcon trader I can be (specialize and try to capitalize on that?) I'm trying to get a lay of the land in terms of comp and where I point my career. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Ryan
