Non Target Career Advancement*Execution

Being a part of the forum long enough, it seems that target schools are a big deal even though there's an enormous industry out there and obviously not everyone is going to have the most desirable role let alone be capable of most.

Through sheer will I was able to break into a small long/short HF working on execution and support. It's an environment where everyone wears multiple hats working around the clock. I would say this is not a desirable place for the majority on here. I've seen many posts saying execution traders get pigeonholed while others say many PMs started out that way.

What's the most efficient way to leverage such an experience and gain maximum ROI

I'm sure there's many avenues from a broader perspective to drill down to long/short term, as well as gaps in skillset to fill in.

Thanks WSO
