Off Cycle Internships?

Currently waiting on summer 2027 S&T decisions + waiting for recruitment for prop/quant shops to open up in late summer.

Does anyone know of firms that do off cycle internships for trading? Either banks, Prop, hedge funds etc…

If so is it only for specific schools? Like from what I see SIG really only does off cycle for drexel co-op but I may be wrong?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, off-cycle internships in trading, whether at banks, prop shops, or hedge funds, are available but can be quite niche and competitive. Here are some insights:

  1. Firms Offering Off-Cycle Internships:

    • Some proprietary trading firms, like SIG, may have specific programs such as the Drexel co-op, but these are often tied to partnerships with certain schools.
    • Banks and hedge funds occasionally offer off-cycle roles, but these are typically less structured and may depend on immediate needs or specific projects.
  2. Eligibility and School-Specific Programs:

    • While some firms may have partnerships with specific schools (e.g., Drexel for SIG), many off-cycle opportunities are open to candidates from various backgrounds, provided they demonstrate strong skills and interest.
    • Networking and reaching out directly to firms can help uncover unadvertised opportunities.
  3. Advice for Securing Off-Cycle Roles:

    • Apply broadly and consider roles in related areas like trading technology or operations if direct trading internships are unavailable.
    • Build relevant skills (e.g., programming, quantitative analysis) to stand out.
    • Leverage platforms like LinkedIn and job boards to identify openings and connect with professionals in the industry.

If you're waiting for summer 2027 decisions, using this time to network and explore off-cycle opportunities could be a strategic move to stay engaged and enhance your profile.
