QIS trading + switching desk
Does anyone know if this is a good place to be (JPM/GS)? seems like there's very limited scope to take risk, resulting in difficulties moving to buyside in the future, but on the bright side you get to pick whatever product you want to specialise in, which brings me onto the next question:
If one does land on a desk like that, and decides that it isn't the one, is switching to a desk (potentially even where you've already traded that desk's product) difficult?
I thought QIS wasn’t that bad, it’s very close related to exotic derivatives which is quite profitable
I think the desk itself is quite profitable but problem is when a lot of that comes from fees rather than skill of the traders your hands are tied for bonus season. Plus not learning how to prop trade or market make much is a bit of a bummer..
I guess it might be hard to jump to a desk at another firm that specializes in one product? But it should be pretty easy to transfer to an internal desk and move on from there “?
Is transferring internally to another desk easy at a BB? Read stuff on here saying once you get assigned a desk you're stuck with it..
Might differ by firm but at my BB it’s super commonplace
Is this European or US BB?
European
I was also assigned to a QIS desk, wonder how it turned out for you in terms of career path after working on the QIS desk? Any effect on exits options to prop shops or hedge funds?
