Rates/FX Sales to Macro HF?
Realized I should have posted this in the S&T forum not the HF forumn, but basically I have an opportunity coming up full time for most likely rates/FX desks in sales positions, and was wondering about the potential to move from this role to a macro hedge fund in the future, or if it would be necessary to try and move to a trading or research role first? Thanks!
I've seen jr sales move to macro execution and then to a PM seat. I've also seen very senior sales move into a PM seat though that's far more rare.
Is it possible for execution traders to be a PM then?
in macro - yes
So sell-side traders - buy-side execution traders - PM in macro is possible too?
So basically macro involves rates and FX desk? I can be a sell-side macro trader in investment banks first and then jump into the HF to be an execution trader. After that, HF PM is accessible.
Why specifically in macro? Really curious - do you learn the market/product better in rates sales than in equity deriv sales or commodity sales or IG sales etc?
