Roles/Opportunities of Quant Researchers vs. Quant Traders

Hey, I've been looking at the job openings listed on a bunch of prop shops/quant focused hedge funds, and it seems like there's a ton of nonstandardized job titles/descriptions that make things confusing. At some there will only be quant researchers, at others there will be roles for researchers and traders. The role of each is usually explained on the website, but are they generally viewed as equal? What are the differences in pay and exit opportunities (though I guess most people at hedge funds/prop shops aren't exactly begging for exits)? Is it like front office vs back office at banks?
