When you quit your job and go to school. Does your Series 7 automatically get shut down? Or does it stay active until your next renewal date.
I am basically asking so that I know how to properly reflect it in my resume.

No, it's good two years after your end date. The bank should send you the U5 information so you know your exact end date.
it expires after 2 years if you're no longer employed. Not a 100%, but I went to the Buyside and after the 2 years were up I put (expired) next to the licenses on my resume.
