Thanks WSO. My new title is "Head Trader". Success Story??

Just got through my 1st week as "Head Trader". I work for a large retail mortgage lender. After being on the sales/origination side for 10 yrs, I made the switch to our 2ndary markets team. Main role is to set up hedge positions for our pipeline (currently at 3.5B). Then via phone/trade web, I buy/sell MBS forwards.

I will be finishing up my MBA at Ross (evening program) this fall. My goal was to pursue a S&T role after I graduate. But this position opened up, i interviewed, and they offered me the position.

Coolest part of the job so far is just talking to traders from our counter parties every day...when things are slow, I can call any one of them and just shoot the shit for a few.

Anyhow just wanted to share, as this forum has helped tremendously over the last couple years in gaining a much better understanding to everything that is relevant in the great world of IB/S&T.

I still have aspirations for "Wall Street" and am hoping that the experience that I gain and relationships I develop will help me to that end.

Thanks all. I was definitely fortunate that the position opened up when it did. I will still recruit this fall (my manager knows this) but it will definitely be a lot less stressful knowing that I can stay if I choose to. And the experience that I gain over the next 8 mos should definitely give me a leg up on landing interviews and ultimately offers. I thought that I would be too old to get into S&T type of a role (I'm 35)...but I figure I still have a lot of years left in me! I'm not an old fart just yet!
