Top BB S&T vs TDP

Have the choice between both programmes. Come from a Math background and can code well, but very little financial knowledge or trading experience.

Would probably aim to get on the commodity desk at the BB (GS MS JPM). Interested in pros and cons for each choice - I know TDP is the ‘golden ticket’ in commodities trading, but also heard that the BB is better for financial prop trading, which seems to be more common (i.e. the HFs, quant firms etc).

Interested in the macro side of things, but also want to put my STEM skills to use.

Any advice appreciated

If your goal is commodity trading specifically, TDP is usually the faster track to those desks, with structured exposure and mentoring. Big banks give broader experience and can be a better springboard if you want flexibility, quantitative modeling, or exposure to prop trading and macro research.

BB S&T is better if you want to leverage coding/quant skills across multiple products and markets, and gives a strong resume for HF or quant roles later. TDP is more specialized, excellent for pure commodities, but less transferable outside that niche. Your choice depends on whether you want depth in commodities or breadth in trading/quant skills.
