Trachtenberg Speed Math
Has anyone read through this with any success? I would just go through the whole thing but I do not have time to freelance 270 pages this summer without knowing I will get something out of it. My mental math is currently above average at best.
I am curious as well.
I never had enough time to get into this.
However if you want to strengthen a little your basic algebra speed, you should give a shot to this small "game": http://student2trader.com/mathgame Oh, don't mind the blog which is about a student trying to get better for Optiver/Tibra interviews. It's obviously completely fake and the guy just wants you to buy his book.
If you play this game a little, and put a lot of focus into it, you'll discover by yourself the possible flaws in your reasoning and ways to speed it up.
I have a different book called Secrets of Mental Math that I'm a fan of....
I have been reading the book at my convenience. So far, it has helped a lot. The things I am doing are still not terribly hard, but the acccuracy of my math has greatly improved. I would recommend it after the first 30 of 260 pages.
Warp,
As one of the co-founders of S2T, your comments regarding our speed mathematics book is not as you refer to it "fake". It is a completely unjustified remark. The book concentrates on what we feel are the most efficient and practical methods to approach particular questions, in the end it is entirely up to you if you choose to take advantage and practice these procedures.
To the OP, I myself have not gone through the entire Trachtenberg book. I believe however that the approach they use for multiplication is quite useful. As FIASCO already mentioned, Secrets of Mental Math is a decent book.
In case you need a copy (I believe Trachtenberg's book is now out of print), do a search on scribd.com. I downloaded a scanned copy of the book a few years ago from the site.
Just bought a copy on half.com... Not cheap but I'll give you feedback once I've had a chance to read it.
Please don't buy the book if you don't have to. I found it on torrentz or scribd.
