Trading & Memory

Hey Monkeys,

I'm a little under a year into the Analyst role on a trading floor & have noticed over the past few months that my memory has become much, much worse. I used to be able to entertain deep trains of thought and would rarely, if ever, forget things, but I feel like I've become a lot more reactionary lately - almost like a goldfish with a 5-second short-term memory. Doubtlessly this is the result of a million distractions at once: emails, IMs, broker boxes and countless other flashing lights.

Is this normal for traders? Presumably the answer is "yes", and in that case: is there anything that I can do to prevent/mitigate this? Any advice would be appreciated.

Something that helps is I retrace my steps and backtrack literally. I am walking into a room and forget why? Turn around go back into the last room and walk back again. Might sound weird but it has done wonders for me. If you were doing something before getting alerted to something say an email from a broker or colleague go back into the previous window you were using with alt tab since that stuff is done on memory of what you were using. This helps rejog my memory when I find myself confused as to what I am doing.
