Using a connect - Relationship I could possibly leverage?

okay, so through my father, I have a connect that is a Director at a pretty well known ibank.

Problem is, he's a quant, not a Trader or Banker. Basically in charge of the computers that facilitate HFC and dark pool.

Would this be a relationship I can still use to leverage my way into another department?

Obviously he might know people in different departments, but I feel as though it isn't a typical thing.

Any thoughts would be great.

I've been pulled in for IBD FT interviews by connections I made in non-IB (although related) groups. It can't hurt, and maybe it'll spark an interest in something new for you.

"quant" is very vague yeah, he could be very BO and never interact with anyone except IT and ops... or he could be on the trading floor regardless, wouldn't hurt to talk to him
