vent: i hate pre/post market hours!!

as a newcomer, i'm so effin sick of PM and AH. there have been SOOOOO many times i'm watching a stock on my watchlist then some big news or something gets announced either really really early or really really late and by the time the "normal" stock trading hours begin the price has either popped already (so i missed profit) or it has sunk (so i missed an opportunity to cut losses).

does anyone else notice this? any suggestions?

Get used to it. Shit like this happens all the time. My advice to you is start timing your calendar better and pay attention to when news is coming out! Do you also understand something called Reg FD? Unless there is a mid-day announcement where they will put a hold on the trading of a stock for a block of time, you are really only limited to Pre-Market and After Hours. Come On Man! Stop being an idiot and think maybe there's a reason!

If the news came out, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. It's not like you can see the news and react to it before the market does. If you don't know this already, my suggestion is to stop trading altogether. Or just write me a check, say that you traded, and chalk up the loss to experience.

unknown00can someone give me ideas on how to deal with this? for example just today, biocompany gets acquired, announced at 9am. then right now 4pm, another biocompany gets agreement with FDA. both happened outside normal trading hours, advice on how to gain from these?

Is your question, "How can I trade events without potentially losing?" How about, don't trade events...

Because when you're in a room full of smart people, smart suddenly doesn't matter—interesting is what matters.

... isn't this like, part of the package of being in trading? Did you really think it was a pure 9:30-to-4 and you could cruise through PM/AH? For that matter what did you think happened AH anyways?!
