Wall St Firm Without Degree
i just have a quick question, is there anyway i can get in a Trading firm like first new york or jane st with out a college degree, if possible what could be possible steps to take. i personally was thinking of calling and asking if i can pay them to train me and prove myself to be of some worth and get hired that way. thanks
Do you have a trading track record? Without that you stand no chance at a place like FNYS.
Plenty. Just put up 5k of your own money and you can get in on a desk. They won't give much training though. Neither will most shops that would take a person without a degree from a good school/with a good gpa.

There's a surprising number of people without degrees, especially trading. Banking is much more pedigree focused, but trading and F/A are all about how much money you make. These days, people might start as a temp and bust their ass to get hired, then network around.....but that's REALLY tedious, and you'd get farther and quicker with a degree.
It would be almost impossible to get your foot in the door. But I'm sure its happened. I'm sure there are plenty of lower profile and less successful versions of Marc Rich out there.

First of all I stumbled into this forum a couple months ago, devoured all the information available and now decided to join in.
I was wondering if I could get your advice on this:
What chances there are for a school dropout to work in Finance? Few years back I had to drop out from school because I simply ran out of money due poor financial planning. After wandering around aimlessly I finally that I got a job through a relative, for sales position for this investment firm, in where I'v been working ever since in client acquisition and sales.
I'm doing alright financially since I do enjoy the competition and the pay, but I wonder if lacking the education will significantly hurt me in the long term. Can you work in finance without a degree? How bad will it hurt your credibility if you ever start your own company? Is it a one way road?
Would love to hear your take on this!
in theory, it's possible. in reality, it'd be easier for you to go back and get a degree and try through a more traditional channel.
if money is the issue, I'd do community college then transfer to a top public in your area. for example, I know UNC and UVA have high admission rates for successful community college people, and those are both target schools for finance recruiting. alternatively, you could try for ROTC.
