What does the analyst do?
I've read that in ibd, analysts mostly create models on Excel. Do trading analysts also create models before they actually start trading?

by trading do you mean training? if so then usually not.
quants build models.
well, as an analyst you would probably build spreadsheets to look at risk, p/l, etc.
ok, but those aren't models.
i build plenty of spreadsheets. I build pricers. I breakout risk all the time. but I've never built a model, and I will likely never build one. Model has a specific meaning.
