What is a franchise desk
What exactly is a franchise desk? I often read that expression in connection with Goldman, but maybe it is also used by other banks. Is this just another name for a flow desk, like market making or something different? For example Equity franchise, Index options franchise etc.

Franchise sales is another term for research sales. So equity franchise sales will be pitching ideas from the equity research and trading teams to clients. Unlike sales traders they are less involved with actual execution of the trade.
